The inspector for cultural property of the Ministry of Culture and Media handed over the inspection report to the President of the Municipality of Berane, Đolo Lutovac, ordering the removal of the monument to Chetnik commander Pavle Đurišić immediately, and no later than within three days, "Vijesti" has learned unofficially.
The Police Directorate arrested Beranc VD (59) today and filed a criminal complaint for the criminal offense of injury and unauthorized erection of a memorial.
The Ministry of Culture and Media confirmed the article by "Vijesti" that Lutovac was served with a decision.
They say in a statement that the installation of an illegal memorial to Pavle Đurišić in the Berane village of Gornje Zaostro represents a direct violation of the law and a gross violation of the foundations of a modern, civic and anti-fascist Montenegro.
They say that immediately upon learning of the incident, they ordered an inspection, and that the cultural heritage inspector from that department conducted an on-site investigation.
"Based on an insight into the factual situation, an order was issued to the Municipality of Berane to remove the disputed monument under urgent procedure, immediately, and no later than three days from the date of receipt of the minutes. The decision was personally delivered to the President of the Municipality of Berane, Đolo Lutovac, who was designated as the person responsible for execution," the statement reads.
The subject of supervision is obliged to notify the Inspectorate for the Protection of Cultural Property in writing of the measures taken within two days of the expiry of the deadline set for the elimination of irregularities.
"This act unequivocally confirms that the state has the mechanisms and will to react decisively to any attempt to violate the legal order. The Ministry of Culture and Media, in cooperation with other institutions, will continue to protect the cultural heritage, historical truth and values on which Montenegro is based as a state of free citizens, equality and a European future," the statement reads.
