Minister of Culture and Media Tamara Vujović strongly condemned the physical attack, threats and destruction of equipment of photojournalists from Vijesti and Pobjeda, Boris Pejović and Stevo Vasiljević, which occurred in Gornji Zaostar.
She said that media freedom and the safety of journalists are the foundation of every democratic society.
"No journalist, photojournalist or any media worker should be exposed to threats, physical violence or the seizure of equipment simply because they are doing their job professionally and informing the public," said Vujović.
She pointed out that attacks on journalists represent an attack on the right of citizens to know the truth, and that is an attack on democracy itself.
"The state will not tolerate physical attacks or attempts to intimidate media representatives. I express my full confidence that the Police Directorate, in cooperation with the competent prosecutor's office, will fully shed light on this case, identify and prosecute all those responsible, as has already been announced by the Police Directorate," said Vujović.
She added that she has "complete confidence in the director of the Police Directorate," who, she said, has acted fairly, courageously and decisively in all cases so far, protecting public order, the safety of citizens and the authority of the law.
"The state will continue to act decisively, both in protecting cultural heritage and in protecting the rights of journalists, without giving in to any pressure. Violence must not be tolerated, and the truth must not be silenced," concluded Vujović.
