Nikšić firefighters save numerous houses from fire, fight multiple forest fires

The Nikšić Protection and Rescue Service is intervening at several locations where large-scale fires are active.

The fire has engulfed the areas of Sjenokosa, Duga, Bukovik, Zakraj, Golija and Župa, and firefighters have been deployed to all hotspots to prevent the spread of flames and protect the homes and property of locals.

Severe weather conditions, high temperatures and strong winds make extinguishing difficult.

"We have had an increased number of forest fires for two days now. All our firefighters and rescuers are on the ground. Yesterday, the air-helicopter unit helped us. It is currently most critical in Zakraj and Duga. Strong winds are making our extinguishing operations difficult. We have defended all the endangered houses," said Slavko Tadić, commander of the Nikšić Fire and Rescue Unit, as reported by the RTNK portal.

He added that this is extremely inaccessible terrain.
