A Canadian from Croatia will also assist in extinguishing fires in the territory of Montenegro starting Tuesday, the Ministry of Internal Affairs announced.
The government department announced that today Serbia sent a Kamov helicopter, which landed in Podgorica at around 17 p.m. and is already engaged in extinguishing the fire from the air.
"A large number of fires have been active in the territory of Montenegro since last night and early in the morning, and many of them have come close to homes and threatened to endanger citizens' property. As the conditions for activating the EU Civil Protection Mechanism have been met, at 11:28 a.m. the Ministry of the Interior sent a call for assistance to the Member States of the Mechanism. At 14:19 p.m. we received a response from the Emergency Response Center (ERCC) about the possibility of engaging aircraft, and the situation is such that in the early morning hours we can expect assistance from a Canadian from the Republic of Croatia. In addition, in accordance with the bilateral agreement, we have also activated assistance from the Republic of Serbia, which sent us a Kamov helicopter during the day, which landed in Podgorica around 17 p.m. and is already engaged in extinguishing the fire from the air," the Ministry of the Interior announced.
They add that local protection and rescue services from the cities where the fires are occurring are on the ground, and that they are also being assisted by colleagues from other municipalities, the Air and Helicopter Unit of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, members of the Directorate for Protection and Grazing, a multi-purpose robotic firefighting system, members of the Army of Montenegro and their aircraft.
"We appeal to citizens to immediately report a fire to 112 or 123 if they notice it. Also, bearing in mind that most of the fires mentioned are the result of human factors, carelessness or deliberate arson, we urge citizens to immediately report the aforementioned actions to 112 or 122 if they notice them," it was announced.
They reminded that lighting fires and using pyrotechnics is prohibited, especially in conditions of increased fire activity.
