Aircraft from the Army, the Ministry of Interior, and a helicopter that arrived from Serbia as aid are already extinguishing the fires from the air.
The Director of the Ministry of Interior's Directorate for Protection and Rescue, Miodrag Bešović, said on Boje jutra on Vijesti Television that a large number of fires are active throughout Montenegro - in Podgorica, Bar, Budva, Bijelo Polje, Nikšić, Šavnik.
"Of these fires, the situation is most serious on the territory of Podgorica in the settlements of Piperi, Kakaricka gora, Smokovac, Rogami, Doljani. It is difficult to say how many active fires there are on the territory of the country. Last night, the most dramatic was on Kakaricka gora, where, with the efforts of firefighters, the army and employees of the Directorate, the buildings were extinguished and we did not allow the fire to spread," said Bešović.
He recalled that an invitation had been sent to the EU Civil Protection Mechanism, as well as to NATO's Euro-Atlantic Disaster Response Coordination Centre (EADRCC).
Bešović said that a Canadian is also expected to arrive from Croatia.
"We are expecting a response from NATO, we know that our diplomatic representatives are working on these activities and trying to provide as much assistance as possible," said Bešović.
