Over 100 members of the Montenegrin Army, with specialized vehicles and equipment, were engaged throughout the previous night in extinguishing the fire in the Piper area, where the fire threatened to spread to a wider area and further endanger households.
As announced by the Ministry of Defense, thanks to coordinated action with other competent services, soldiers managed to localize multiple fire lines during the night, extinguishing not only large flames, but also smaller hotspots and embers, in order to prevent them from reigniting.
"These interventions are part of a wider fire suppression campaign in several locations across Montenegro, including Donje Kokote and other parts of Podgorica, as well as Buljarica on the coast. The situation is further aggravated by high temperatures and strong winds, which is why the army, together with civilian structures, is constantly present in the field. Around 170 members of the Army of Montenegro, five specialized vehicles and two helicopters of the Army of Montenegro were engaged in extinguishing the fire yesterday, which has released over half a million tons of water in firefighting flights across the country in the past month," the statement reads.
During the night-time shutdowns in Piperi, the Chief of the General Staff of the Army of Montenegro, Brigadier General Miodrag Vuksanović, was also in the field with his associates, providing support to the engaged units and coordinating activities on site.
"Today, our members will continue to fight the fires, alongside the competent services and citizens, until the situation is fully brought under control," it was announced.
