The Head of the Regional Unit of the Directorate for Protection and Rescue Podgorica, Vojin Vojinović, announced at an extraordinary press conference that the current situation with fires in Montenegro is most complex in the capital.

"We have fires in Stara Zlatica where our aircraft operated and it was successfully localized. Other locations are Fundina and Kučka Korita, where we sent an aircraft with five tons of water," said Vojinović.

According to him, the situation in Danilovgrad is complex, and there are two military helicopters on the ground with a capacity of around 1.500 liters of water.

"The situation is much better than it was last night and this morning," he pointed out.

Vojinović added that active fires in Nikšić are under control, while the fire on Golija has been completely extinguished.

He said that firefighters from Šavnik are keeping the fire under control, and aerial extinguishing is not necessary in Bijelo Polje.

"Early this morning we had a meeting with staff from Austria. We are expecting help from Hungary, their arrival is expected today at around three o'clock," said Vojinović, adding that colleagues from all over Montenegro arrived to help firefighters from Podgorica.

The Head of the Directorate for Civil Protection and Disaster Risk Reduction at the Directorate for Protection and Rescue, Ljuban Tmušić, said that they are doing everything in accordance with the National Fire Protection and Rescue Plan, and explained how international assistance works.

He said that a lot of misinformation has appeared in the media regarding international aid.

When asked by journalists whether we have enough equipment and personnel to rely on our own capacities in such situations in the future, Tmušić said that there is no protection and rescue system anywhere in the world that can respond to situations of this type without international assistance.

"We have about 170 vehicles. This capacity that Montenegro has is optimal, of course we would always like more and we always need additional equipment. This is the fourth time we have asked for international assistance, and we should not be ashamed of international assistance, everyone does it," said Tmušić.
