Minister of Energy and Mining Admir Šahmanović called on all citizens to be extremely cautious, to avoid any action that could cause a fire, and to follow the instructions of the competent services without exception.
Today, Šahmanović, with teams from the Montenegrin Electricity Distribution System (CEDIS), visited the area of Piper and Kuče and witnessed the superhuman effort that people are making to protect facilities, especially the key energy infrastructure of Montenegro.
"These workers, side by side with other services in the field, show what true patriotism means when, regardless of fatigue and danger, you stand on the front line of defense of your homes and your country," said Šahmanović.
He, as announced by the Ministry of Energy and Mining, said that the courage and unwavering dedication of these people deserve the admiration of all of Montenegro.
"Thank you to them for every hour, every step, and every decision to be where it is most difficult, often at the cost of their personal safety," said Šahmanović.
He emphasized that Montenegro is going through great challenges these days, but that it is precisely in moments like these that the power of togetherness and solidarity comes to the fore.
"Now is the time to show that we are one. I call on all citizens to be extremely cautious, to avoid any action that could cause a fire, and to follow the instructions of the competent authorities without exception. Only together can we defend our homes, our property, and our country," concluded Šahmanović.
CEDIS: Fires caused major damage to the power system
CEDIS announced that Šahmanović and the company's executive director Vladimir Ivanović, with associates, today visited the works on the rehabilitation of the electricity infrastructure in Piperi and on Kakaricka gora, damaged in recent fires.
"Around 10 transmission towers have burned down on the 50 kV 'Piperi' substation so far, while the number of destroyed towers on the low-voltage network has not yet been determined. CEDIS teams managed to replace as many as 17 towers yesterday, in order to enable power supply to the pumps at the water source and ensure water supply for the residents of this area. Work on installing new towers continued today. On Kakaricka gora, three towers on the 'Tuzi Overhead Transmission Line' burned down last night. CEDIS has all the necessary resources to repair damaged power facilities, and maintenance teams are making extraordinary efforts to establish regular power supply in record time," the statement reads.
They say that, during the summer season, fires in several locations in Montenegro caused great material damage to the electricity system. "So far, over 150 poles have been replaced in the municipalities of Plužine, Podgorica, Žabljak and Pljevlja. The fires are still active, so the data is not final. All CEDIS teams are working in difficult conditions, and due to extreme temperatures and active fires, it is not possible to predict with certainty the further development of the situation," they note.
The site visit was also attended by the State Secretary of the Ministry of Energy and Mining, Dino Tutundžić, and the Acting General Director of the Directorate for Geology and Mining, Marko Vučinić.
The Ministry of Energy and Mining and CEDIS have appealed to citizens to be particularly careful and responsible when handling fire in open spaces, in order to prevent situations that threaten the safety of people, property and the stability of the electricity grid. It is recalled that carelessness or irresponsible behavior can cause major material damage and interruptions in the supply of electricity.
