Intensifying all activities for fire prevention and early detection and coordinating local services were the focus of today's meeting of the Municipal Protection and Rescue Team of the Municipality of Tivat, due to the current unfavorable situation with fires in the country.

The topic of the meeting was also the recent fire in Luštica, where all local fire and volunteer forces intervened, with the support of other authorities and services.

"Our goal and obligation is to maintain safety during the fire season, by strengthening preventive action and the surveillance system. We are reminded of this by the alarming situation with fires throughout Montenegro, in conditions of a heat wave, with no signs of rain, in the midst of the tourist season and traffic congestion that further aggravate the situation. It is necessary for citizens to be aware of the danger in the current meteorological conditions and to react and report any suspicious situation," said the Mayor and Chairman of the Protection and Rescue Team Željko Komnenović.

He also pointed out that the fire on Luštica once again demonstrated the importance of the work of the volunteer fire departments "Tivat", "Krtoli" and "Boka", which have been involved in summer duty for years, in cooperation with the municipal Protection and Rescue Service.

"The Municipality of Tivat will accelerate the procurement of a software fire detection system, which has proven to be an effective solution. We have sent the National Emergency Team a recommendation that the Government initiate procedures for the procurement of a firefighting helicopter for the next firefighting season, which could effectively deal with fires in inaccessible terrain," concluded Komnenović.

The fire on Luštica that broke out at the end of July was caused by a storm, and the multi-day intervention on the ground required large resources and the engagement of all available units, said the commander of the Protection and Rescue Service of the Municipality of Tivat, Milorad Giljača.

"Several teams from the Protection and Rescue Service and the DVD from Tivat participated in extinguishing fires in Budva, Bar and Podgorica and successfully completed their tasks. The SZS Tivat is ready to await calls from the Directorate for Emergency Situations of the Ministry of the Interior and municipalities affected by fires. In this regard, a major problem when providing assistance is the complicated and slow procedures for engaging units in these activities, and the responsibility and risks are great," Giljača pointed out, emphasizing the necessity of adequate systemic support from the state level during the fire season and tightening punitive measures for those who cause fires.

The representative of the Directorate for Emergency Situations of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Herceg Novi regional unit, Žarko Lalićević, informed the attendees about the conclusions of yesterday's session of the National Team, emphasizing that the situation in the fire areas in the country is currently partially under control, and that several international units have been providing great support in extinguishing fires in critical locations since yesterday.

The Head of the Tivat Security Department, Miodrag Knežević, congratulated the members of the SZS, as well as the members of all DVDs, for their dedication and sacrifice in performing their tasks in the field. The officers of the Tivat Police Department are on standby and, together with the municipal police, provide support during interventions.

Tivat Red Cross volunteers intervened in post-fire situations and for the purpose of providing first aid, and are also available for any other type of assistance in the field. The Tivat Health Center announced that after the completion of all interventions, preventive outpatient examinations will be organized for Tivat firefighters.
