The yacht that burned down in the Budva marina last night sank next to the breakwater, and is about five meters deep.
This was told to Vijesti by the Port of Budva, whose crews towed it from its berth along the old town walls last night, for safety reasons.
The Port of Budva also said that there was no environmental incident.
Budva firefighters, seven teams, extinguished the fire, after which the Port of Budva made the decision to remove the yacht from the marina. However, the fire then flared up, and the yacht burned outside the marina's waters.
As Vijesti was told, an investigation is pending, after which the yacht will be pulled from the sea.
UPSUL: Fire extinguished, yacht sank after running aground, no significant pollution of the marine environment occurred
The Maritime Safety and Port Management Authority (UPSUL) officially announced today that the fire that broke out last night on the yacht "Mavrovunija II" in the Port of Budva was successfully extinguished after the vessel was pulled to a safe distance from the marina berths, and that the timely intervention of the competent services prevented sea pollution, although the yacht later sank when it ran aground inside the port.
"After receiving the notification at 18:45, the Maritime Safety and Port Management Administration (UPSUL) immediately sent its SAR-5 and SAR-1 vessels to the scene, together with representatives of the Bar Port Authority and the Navigation Safety Inspection, to provide assistance to the Protection and Rescue units from Budva. At the same time, a specialized vessel with equipment to prevent sea pollution from vessels was put on standby," the statement said.
UPSUL added that in the first phase, the fire was partially extinguished, and that the yacht was pulled out of the marina to a safe distance from other vessels.
"However, due to the re-ignition of the fire, the Administration's vessels, the specialized vessel of the Porto Montengro marina and the professional services of the Luštica Bay marina emergency team also participated in extinguishing the fire from the sea. The intervention lasted several hours, and the fire was completely extinguished around 23:00. During the run-in in the inner part of the marina, the yacht completely sank. The most important thing is to emphasize that there were no human casualties or injuries, and that there was no significant pollution of the marine environment. In order to prevent this, protective barriers were stretched around the sunken vessel," said UPSUL.
They express their gratitude to all services and crews that participated in the intervention.
"The competent investigative and prosecutorial authorities will conduct the procedure to determine the cause of the fire and inform the public about it. UPSUL will continue to take all measures to protect life, property and the marine ecosystem, and appeals to owners and users of vessels to strictly adhere to the prescribed safety and fire prevention procedures," UPSUL said.
