Secretary General of the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS), Aleksandar Damjanović, said that Sreten Perović's contribution to culture remains a lasting foundation of Montenegro.
Academician Sreten Perović passed away yesterday in Podgorica, at the age of 93.
"With special reverence, deeply appreciating his extraordinary achievements, the Democratic Party of Socialists bids farewell to our creator and prominent cultural worker Sreten Perović. Perović's name is one of the symbols of tireless, almost eight decades-long, persistent and fruitful work in numerous fields. We remember him both as a versatile author and as a man who, from various positions, greatly contributed to Montenegrin art and its affirmation," Bogdanović announced.
He said that the timeless anthologies, which are "just a part of his writings from earlier times," remain one of the most significant endeavors in the history of Montenegrin literature.
"His work, from the Lexicographic Institute and Pobjeda, through the Matica Crnogorska, the Duklja Academy of Sciences and Arts, the Montenegrin PEN Center and the Montenegrin Society of Independent Writers, all the way to literary anthologies and magazines, remains a lasting and unavoidable beacon for Montenegro and its culture and art. We will equally remember Perović as an employee who was particularly dedicated to Montenegro, who constantly pointed out the importance of self-awareness, Montenegrin identity and being," the statement reads.
