Poor air quality was recorded in the town under Rumija this week, according to data from the Environmental Protection Agency, which recorded the worst air quality in Bar on August 12th, and yesterday, Monday, the measuring station near the "Topolica" Sports Hall also recorded poor parameters.

The highest concentration of PM10 particles in the past period was measured at the measuring station in Bar, where the average hourly concentration was 160 micrograms per cubic meter, recorded on August 12 at XNUMX a.m., the Agency announced.

The concentration of PM2,5 particles was also very high during the same period, amounting to 155 micrograms per cubic meter, "which indicates the possibility of a significant impact on health, especially for vulnerable categories, chronically ill people, the elderly and children," they warn.

This Monday, the values of these particles were recorded at 24,2 micrograms per cubic meter for PM10 particles, and 4,6 micrograms of nitrogen dioxide, whose reference value is two micrograms.

Due to such results, the Agency assigned the air quality in Bar a "low quality" rating.

"Although PM particle concentrations in the ground layer of the atmosphere, where our instruments sample the air at a height of about four meters above the ground, are below extremely high values in most measurement intervals relating to hourly average values, it is important to emphasize that enormous amounts of pollutants are found in the higher layers of the atmosphere," the Agency pointed out.

The wind additionally contributes to their dispersion, they stated, which prevents even greater dangers to air quality in the ground layer, but does not reduce the overall damage to the environment and human health, because strong winds accelerate the further spread of the fire.

The Agency urges citizens to behave responsibly, especially with regard to handling open flames and disposing of flammable materials, and reminds that intentionally starting a fire is a criminal offense for which it is necessary to further strengthen criminal policy.

The series of fires that swept through the Bar municipality last week began on August 10, when flames broke out in Čanj, and that fire was localized and extinguished three days later. During that time, there were at least four other locations in Bar that required firefighters' intervention - at the old intersection and the Railway Station, in the Green Belt, on Goli Brdo in Sutomore and Volujica.
