The Kolašin settlement of Dulovine, after 35 years, has a regular water supply even during the summer months. In that part of the Municipality, which is also home to the Botanical Garden, the legacy of Danijela Vincek, water shortages during the summer have become an infamous tradition. Since the Kolašin water supply is gravity-fed, from the source in Mušovića Rijeka, settlements at higher elevations were generally the first to be left without water during the summer months.

According to what the director of the Water and Sewerage Department told "Vijesti" Milos Pekovic, to solve a decades-old problem in Dulovine, 10.000 euros, will and effort were needed.

"First of all, in Dulovine, the entire old hydrotechnical infrastructure was replaced with a new one, a new pipeline with a diameter of two inches and a length of 300 meters was laid, new connections with control meters (water meters) were made to all consumers. All fittings were replaced in both shafts. The height difference between the two shafts over a 300-meter stretch is about 30 meters, which is why it was necessary to install a pump in the initial shaft, which is located at an elevation of about 990 meters above sea level," explains Peković.

In Dulovine, water from the city spring is supplied to about 20 users, or a total of about 50 household members. According to Peković, the work on establishing a regular water supply in that settlement was financed by the Water Supply and Sewerage Company from its own revenues.

"The work was much easier for us thanks to the purchase of a mini excavator. This is the first working machine since the company was divided, that is, since the Municipal and Water and Sewerage Departments were formed as separate companies, from the previously single company. The funds for the purchase of the mini excavator were provided partly from the Municipality, and partly from the company's own revenues," says Peković.

"Vijesti" was contacted by some of the residents of Dulovine, who said that "after three and a half decades it is hard to believe that they have enough water and normal pressure in the pipeline". They point out that in this way a major problem of the entire settlement has been solved and that they are "grateful to the management and workers of the Public Utilities Company for the quickly completed works and the quality of the water supply to the settlement".

As stated in the Water Supply and Sewerage Work Plan for this year, the development of Kolašin faces serious limitations due to the outdated and dilapidated water supply network, which has not been invested in for decades, as well as due to the insufficiently developed sewage infrastructure. Among the priorities of this company is the continuation of the development project for the water supply and sewage network, as well as the installation of water meters for all users, which would reduce excessive water consumption, especially in suburban and rural settlements.

The situation is particularly critical in the settlements across the Tara River and in Smailagića Polje, where consumption is many times higher than actual needs. Additional measures are also planned, such as the installation of modern water meters with the possibility of remote reading and disconnection, protection of the reservoir in Dulovine, the introduction of a system for controlling consumption by zones, as well as telemetry and control of losses in the network. In the Plan, Peković also announced the development of an as-built project, a cadastre of hydrotechnical installations and a GIS database for water supply and sewage, which would enable better monitoring and planning.
