The non-governmental organization "Disi", which operates in the field of support for cancer patients and their families, has submitted an initiative to introduce free public transportation and parking for oncology patients in Podgorica.
"Oncology patients, in addition to the disease, also face numerous additional burdens. Frequent therapies, examinations and check-ups require daily or multiple trips to health facilities. Transportation and parking costs represent a significant financial burden for many families, in addition to existing medical and living expenses. In this way, our fellow citizens in the most difficult period of their lives are additionally burdened and forced to choose between basic life needs and necessary medical services," the initiative states.
They propose to provide free public transportation through the issuance of special cards for oncology patients, based on a certificate from the health institution; and free parking through the use of special stickers or electronic registrations of patients' vehicles, which would allow unlimited parking in public areas near health institutions and hospitals.
They say the solution would reduce the financial burden on patients and their families, increase the availability of health services, reduce "stress and worries about transportation and parking logistics," and improve the quality of life for patients and their family members.
"By introducing these measures, the Capital City would show concern for its most vulnerable citizens, solidarity and humanity, and thus additionally affirm the values promoted by modern society. Therefore, we appeal that this initiative be considered with full attention and that measures be taken to adopt it in the human and social interest," the initiative states, as announced by the aforementioned NGO.
