A severe storm that hit Tivat last night around 23 p.m. caused significant damage to two aircraft on the general aviation platform of Tivat Airport.
These are two so-called ultralight seaplanes that were participants in the 5th International Seaplane Regatta "Montadria".
These two aircraft, as we unofficially learned, arrived in Tivat yesterday with the intention of their crews spending the night there, and the seaplanes will then fly further towards Croatia in the morning, on their way back to Western Europe, where their crews are from.
However, a strong storm that hit Tivat during the night severely damaged two seaplanes.
Their low weight, as they belong to the so-called ultralight category of sport aircraft, meant that an extremely strong wind literally lifted them off the platform on which they were parked and then "hit" them again with them on the ground.
One seaplane was completely flipped over "on its back", while the other, in contact with the ground again after being lifted by the storm wind, had its left side broken with the float and landing gear supports.
There were no injuries in the incident.
The investigation is ongoing.
Otherwise, except for the first day of the Montadria regatta on Thursday evening, when several seaplanes flew over the Tivat Bay as part of the opening of the event, and a later flight to Kapino Polje near Nikšić, the participants of this year's "Montadria" were unable to carry out any of the planned activities during the three flying days that the regatta was supposed to last.
Due to unfavorable weather conditions and safety reasons, as most of the aircraft are ultralight aircraft that are very sensitive to adverse weather conditions, flights to Plužine, Plav and Berane were canceled, as well as all planned landings on the water surfaces of Skadar, Piva, Plav and Krupac lakes.
Due to the drastically reduced flight program, most participants left Montenegro early, and the owners of two seaplanes were also supposed to do so today, as the storm nevertheless overtook them and damaged their aircraft in last night's incident in Tivat.
