Ostojić: CGES continued work in Đurđevića Tara despite opposition from locals

That power line will stop life in the village. There is no life there anymore. Huge radiation, magnetic fields that affect plant and animal life. They will cause leukemia and cancer, they will affect people's mood, said the president of the Association of Rafters and Residents of the Durmitor National Park (NP) Veljko Ostojić

Despite months of opposition from locals, the CGES company has continued to carry out work on the installation of the Lastva-Čevo-Pljevlja power line, through Đurđevića Tara. Residents of this area point out that as many as 15 households are affected, whose properties and lives are being destroyed by the power line route.

As they state, although they previously received promises that the power line would be laid underground or that it would bypass the village, the works are still being carried out through the settlement itself.

"Wires are passing over our properties, forests are being cut down, and roads are being demolished. They are digging huge holes for poles and creating chaos, destroying nature and the life that we have built for generations," one of the property owners, Veljko Ostojić, told Vijesti.

He said that work has intensified in recent days, properties and forests have been devastated, and that in some places power line poles are only a few dozen meters from houses and restaurants.

"They destroyed life in Đurđevića Tara and future generations who were supposed to stay here, planning their future lives and developing Montenegro's tourism offer," the residents emphasize.

Ostojić said that CGES corrected the previous route of the road and that the poles were planned to be installed on the properties of several locals from whom the company purchased the land.

"They are planning to run wires over our properties without our consent. I understand that they want to do it with the help of drones because the locals will not allow them to pass over their properties," said Ostojić.

Ostojić reminds that Đurđevića Tara is considered one of the symbols of Montenegro's natural beauty, and that the plan is to develop tourism, not industrial devastation of the area.

"We are patriots of this country. We want to preserve it and improve it into a better place to live and stay. What is happening now is the destruction of our families, our nature and the future of Montenegro," said Ostojić.

Ostojić says that it is sad to see the destruction of the Tara River, the Tear of Europe, and again asks who gave permission to build such a power line through the National Park and protected area.

The residents of Đurđević Tara have repeatedly blocked the bridge over the Tara River in protest, because they do not want a power line through the village, which they claim will endanger their health, but also disrupt the nature in the Tara Canyon.
