Landslide on the Budva-Cetinje road: Cleanup could last until tonight, it is unknown when traffic will be reopened

A major rock slide occurred on the Budva-Cetinje main road in the town of Obzovica.

Therefore, traffic on this section has been completely suspended for all vehicle categories.

Fortunately, no one was injured, but the rocks did catch one truck.

According to information from Radio Cetinje, driver Duško Janjušević from Nikšić managed to slow down when he noticed a stone falling onto the road, and just a few seconds later - a large amount of material fell onto the roadway.

"A rock massif collapsed onto the roadway, and this is a common occurrence in this type of material through which our roadway runs," said Ljubiša Lazović from Crnagoraput.

He says the road cleaning should be completed by tonight.

"As you can see, these are large rock blocks, some of which are as much as 20 cubic meters in one piece. It is a fairly compact rock, so it needs to be crushed so that we can remove it from the roadway," he added.

However, it is not known when traffic could be allowed to resume, as the stability of the roadside slope must be assessed. The final decision will be made by the competent authorities, after the Traffic Administration and the road inspector submit their opinions.

A landslide on one of the main roads from Podgorica and the north to the coast has increased pressure on the other main road, via the Sozina tunnel. That is why today, as during every weekend in the season, there are crowds on that road, which were additionally increased due to minor accidents.
