The obligation of institutions to continuously improve the protection system, so that the consequences of such unfortunate events are as small as possible, and citizens are safer. Accordingly, it is planned to create a comprehensive document to be adopted by the Capital City Assembly, which will clearly define fire prevention and protection measures.
This was stated by the President of the Capital City Assembly, Jelena Borovinić Bojović, during a tour of the places in Piperi that were recently affected by fires.
"In addition to the work of the Commission for Damage Compensation, I considered it important to personally speak with citizens who were directly confronted with the fire and whose lives were threatened. Meetings with people who lost their property and who fought for their lives most clearly show the extent of the consequences of the fire. Their experiences are a strong warning and oblige us to act responsibly and without delay. It is equally important to speak with people not only after the accident, but also before possible new challenges, because their experiences and observations are the most credible indicators of real needs," Borovinić Bojović emphasized.
She announced that, in cooperation with professional services and people in the field, she will work on adopting an updated comprehensive Fire Protection and Rescue Plan, which will not only formally meet the legal framework, but will also be adapted to real needs and modern challenges.
"Only in this way can we create a system that will react in a timely manner, reduce risks and strengthen the security of all our citizens," said the Speaker of the Parliament.
As announced by the Capital City, the key points that will be covered by this document are: updating the composition of the municipal protection and rescue team, harmonizing the names of bodies and institutions with the current organization, updating statistical data on the number of rescuers, firefighters, vehicles and equipment, planned and continuous training and development of services, drafting and supplementing expert analyses on risks and factors that influence the occurrence and spread of fires, and the obligation to regularly update plans annually, as provided for by the legal framework.
"It is necessary to harmonize the local plan with the National Fire Protection and Rescue Plan, but also to initiate steps at the state level towards its regular updating. This requires coordinated action by all competent state and local authorities, because only in this way can we raise the protection system to the level that citizens expect and deserve. As the locals themselves pointed out, and as we concluded during the visit, such situations can never be fully predicted. Our task is to react in time and reduce the consequences to the lowest possible level," said Borovinić Bojović.
As announced by the Capital City, it was agreed that other areas affected by the fire in Kuči will be visited in the coming days, in order to ensure, in direct discussions with all citizens, that the update of the Protection Plan is comprehensive, purposeful, and truly effective.
