The non-governmental organization (NGO) "White Stick" from Nikšić will most likely be invited to discuss the Law on Unified Disability Expertise with legislative representatives in the Parliament of Montenegro next week.
According to their claims, they will be received at the meeting by the Chairman of the Committee for Health, Labor and Social Welfare, Dražen Petrić.
Slavica Samardžić, representing the NGO "White Stick", said that they gathered in front of the Parliament, demanding a discussion with the relevant legislators about changes to the law.
She thanked the media for allowing their voices to be heard. She also said that her NGO was “attacked by the Minister of Social Welfare, Family Care and Demography, Damir Gutić”.
"We reached out to the minister who attacked the work of my organization. He called the work unfounded, and said that we do not know the issues. I would ask that we look out for each other," she said.
Representatives of this NGO have repeatedly emphasized that they have contacted all competent institutions for assistance and discussion.
They recalled that it is controversial that the law does not define the differences between "those who acquired a disability through life and those who were born with it."
They also said that they did not understand why there was no support from organizations dealing with the rights of persons with disabilities.
Ferid Muratović (NGO "White Stick") said that they will be persistent and determined.
He also requested that Prime Minister Milojko Spajić be involved in solving the problem.
"Our stay depends solely on the goodwill of the decision-maker. We are here because we are concerned about our rights," Muratović concluded.
