On the occasion of the 34th birthday of the ecological state of Montenegro, on Saturday, September 20, a planting campaign of the indigenous Mediterranean species of holm oak (Quercus ilex) was held in the industrial zone of the Ulcinj Salt Pans Nature Park.

This was announced today by Zenepa Lika, executive director of the association "Dr Martin Šnajder-Jakobi (MSJA)".

"This initiative represents the first step in the development and enrichment of the saltworks area, with the aim of creating an environment that will delight both visitors and the birds that call this area their home," Lika said in a statement.

In addition to students from the "Bratstvo-jedinstvo" Secondary Mixed School (SMŠ), the action was also joined by children from the Primary School (OS) in Štodra, together with their parents.

The Vice President of the Municipality of Ulcinj, Bećir Sela, and associates of the Secretariat for Ecology, as well as members of the civil sector from Ulcinj, as well as numerous families with children and volunteers from the MSJA Society, also contributed, which, as Lika said, once again confirmed the importance of togetherness and intergenerational connections in nature conservation.

"After the division of tasks and the successful planting, the gathering continued with a picnic and a friendly atmosphere, which further strengthened the community spirit that accompanies the activities of the MSJA. This activity also marked the final major action within the Corner of Ecological Community - KEZ project, through which different generations have been connected over the past months. Young and older participants learned together about ecology, climate change and nature conservation, shared experiences and created new values. The KEZ project has shown that togetherness and solidarity are a solid foundation for sustainable community development. The KEZ project - Corner of Ecological Community is implemented by the Dr Martin Schneider–Jacoby Society - MSJA, within the 'Supported = Empowered' program, which is implemented by the Fund for Active Citizenship in partnership with the Foundation for Local Community Development "Slagalica" from Croatia. The program is funded by the European Union and co-financed by the Ministry of Public Administration of Montenegro," said Lika.

She said that the formation of the holm oak alley in the Ulcinj Saltworks industrial zone has created new value and a foundation for future projects.

"In the coming period, it is planned to create a children's corner, which will make this space even more meaningful and attractive for visitors of all generations. On the Day of the Ecological State, the participants decorated the space, and 3D Room benches made of recycled material, so-called Ecoboards, were installed. The decoration of the children's corner was supported by the Municipality of Ulcinj as part of the Ecological Community - Generations in Action project. MSJA thanks all participants for their participation, good energy and support, with an invitation to continue building a sustainable future for Ulcinj and all of Montenegro together," said Lika.
