Trade union organization JRDS RTCG: Cameras are located in places where they are not needed

"Our concerned members and other employees of RTCG are interested in who is monitoring them and with what right through the numerous cameras in and around the building, as well as whether this is in accordance with the requested documents. They were not informed about the installation of these cameras by representatives of the management, so they suspect that someone is unauthorizedly usurping their personal freedom and workers' freedoms," the statement from the Trade Union Organization JRDS RTCG reads.

The fact that the suspended members of the Council of Radio and Television of Montenegro (RTCG) and the illegal General Director with his henchmen from the Legal Service do not show any willingness to finally start implementing the laws of the state whose Public Media Service they arrogantly manage is confirmed by the fact that even after more than a month and a half they have not provided the answers we requested in accordance with the Law on Free Access to Information, the Trade Union of the Public Broadcasting Service of Radio and Television of Montenegro (JRDS RTCG) announced today.

The statement, signed by Danijela Popović, president of the JRDS RTCG trade union, states that on August 14 of this year, the union sent several inquiries to the RTCG Council and management, due to, as the statement states, the worrying number of surveillance cameras installed in common areas at RTCG:

- Physical security study

- How many cameras are installed in total and which cameras does the security service not have access to and why?

- The Rulebook on Physical and Technical Security, updated version from 2022, because despite the obligation, it is not available on the RTCG website.

- Protection plan and consent of the Ministry of Interior /CB Podgorica/

- Which technical security person has a valid license for installing cameras and monitoring them?

- Which people have access to cameras via phone?

- Who monitors cameras that are not covered by security services and what documents allow this?

- Who requested that the current cameras be installed in and around RTCG, the reasons and how much did it cost?

"It is obvious that the cameras were not installed to protect the equipment worth millions that has been in the RTCG building for several years, but are located in places where they are not needed. Our concerned members and other employees of RTCG are interested in who is monitoring them through the numerous cameras in and around the building and with what right, as well as whether this is in accordance with the requested documents. They were not informed about the installation of these cameras by representatives of the management, so they suspect that someone is unauthorizedly usurping their personal freedom and workers' freedoms," the statement from the JRDS RTCG trade union organization reads.

The union said that they would officially request that candidates for top positions at RTCG, as well as other important institutions, undergo a special test of psycho-physical abilities, or characteristics.

The president and some members of the RTCG Council were found guilty on September 23 of abuse of office.

They were given a suspended sentence - seven months in prison if they repeat the crime within two years.

The first-instance verdict was then pronounced by Basic Court judge Dragana Lubarda.

They abused their official position when they elected Boris Raonic to the position of director of the public service, knowing that he did not meet the legal requirements for the position.

The indictment was filed against the president of the Council, Veselin Drljević, and members Filip Lazović, Naod Zorić, Amina Murić, and Predrag Miranović.

However, during the prosecution's closing arguments, the proceedings against Predrag Miranović were suspended.

Defense attorney Vladan Bojić said he would appeal the first-instance verdict to the Higher Court.
