The Royal Capital of Cetinje, through the Secretariat for Housing, Utilities and Transport, has successfully implemented the project of purchasing communal equipment for selective waste collection, through the Eco-Fund Support Program, announced the Public Relations Office of the Royal Capital of Cetinje.

Based on the Public Competition of the Eco-Fund, the Royal Capital of Cetinje submitted an application for the allocation of grants for the purchase of 100 metal containers with a volume of 1,1 cubic meters for the separate collection of municipal waste, reports Cetinjski list.

The total value of the project is 51.909 euros including VAT, while the Eco-fund provided financial support in the amount of 41.527,20 euros, which represents 80 percent of the procurement value, according to a statement from the city administration.

As they said, after conducting a public procurement and concluding a contract with the selected supplier, 100 containers were delivered and placed in public areas throughout the Royal Capital.

Two containers have been placed at each location, one for the disposal of the "dry fraction" of waste (recyclable packaging waste such as paper, cardboard, plastic, glass, etc.), and the other for the "wet fraction" (biowaste, food leftovers from households and catering facilities). The containers are clearly marked with informative labels that facilitate proper disposal. By replacing some of the old containers that were used for mixed waste with new containers for selective disposal, conditions are created for the establishment of a sustainable system of separate waste collection on the territory of the Royal Capital of Cetinje - said the Royal Capital.

They add that this significantly improves the local waste management system, reduces the amount of waste transported to the sanitary landfill "Livade" in Podgorica, and therefore the operating and transportation costs of DOO "Komunalno", as well as the costs of disposal borne by the Royal Capital.

In addition to environmental and economic benefits, selective waste collection contributes to the achievement of legal goals and principles of the circular economy, protects the environment, extends the life of the sanitary landfill, and provides additional income for DOO "Komunalno" through the sale of recyclable waste - said the city administration.

The statement concludes that by introducing this new utility service, the Royal Capital of Cetinje is taking an important step towards more sustainable and responsible waste management, which, according to them, is in line with modern European standards.
