Members of the Mountain Rescue Service and the Aviation and Helicopter Unit of the Ministry of Interior rescued two Israeli citizens who got lost while hiking on Durmitor.

The 112 Operations and Communications Center received a call for help for foreign citizens who were lost in the Prutaš area last night around 19 p.m.

"Immediately after receiving the call, OKC 112 involved members of the Mountain Rescue Service in the operation, four of whose members were engaged in the field until 3 am. Due to the demanding field conditions and the impossibility of continuing the operation from the ground, it was decided to continue the search from the air. This morning, at 6:20 am, the Air-Helicopter Unit of the Ministry of Internal Affairs joined the operation, and the lost persons were located around 8:00 am, safely evacuated and transported to the Clinical Center of Montenegro for medical assistance," the Ministry of Internal Affairs announced.

"The rescue operation by the Mountain Rescue Service of Montenegro, launched last night on Durmitor after two Israeli citizens got lost while hiking, lasted throughout the night in two directions - according to the coordinates that the tourists managed to send and towards the Prutaš area, where it was assumed that they could be located based on the description of the terrain. Despite an intensive search, the tourists were not found during the night. In the morning, a helicopter from the Aviation Helicopter Unit of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Montenegro was involved in the search, which located the lost tourists after a search," the service announced on Facebook.

They note that there are difficult weather conditions on Durmitor, with snow and low temperatures, which further complicated the search.

"This case once again highlights the importance of responsible preparation before heading to the mountains. Durmitor, although attractive to many nature lovers, requires experience, appropriate equipment and careful planning – especially at this time of year, when weather conditions can change suddenly," the post reads.
