Montenegro and Serbia will, through joint projects, further improve sustainable development and environmental standards in the region, assessed the Minister of Ecology, Sustainable Development and Northern Development, Damjan Ćulafić.
On the sidelines of the Second Ministerial Meeting for the Green Agenda for the Western Balkans, he discussed with Serbian Minister of Environmental Protection Sara Pavkov the improvement of cooperation between the two countries in the field of environmental protection, exchange of experiences and future joint initiatives.
As announced by the Ministry of Ecology, Sustainable Development and Northern Development (MERS), the focus of the meeting was harmonizing the text of the memorandum of cooperation between the two ministries, which will define specific directions of action, exchange of information and joint activities in the areas of nature protection, waste management, water protection and climate policies.
"The importance of exchanging expert knowledge and experience was particularly emphasized, as well as the possibility of organizing study visits and technical meetings within the system for monitoring pollutants and managing environmental data, with the participation of national agencies and relevant institutions, as well as sharing experiences in the application of the MRVA system," the statement said.
Ćulafić emphasized that the Memorandum will create a framework for concrete cooperation in the preparation and implementation of projects from the IPA and LIFE programs, as well as enable the exchange of experiences and examples of good practice from countries in the region.
MERS said that it was agreed that the final version of the memorandum would be agreed upon as soon as possible, as well as that an official visit of delegations to Belgrade and Podgorica and meetings of expert teams would be organized that would define the technical aspects of cooperation.
Ćulafić, as announced, said that this is an important step towards strengthening regional cooperation and joint action in the field of environmental protection and that he is certain that through joint projects, Montenegro and Serbia will further improve sustainable development and environmental standards in the region.
MERS said that they will continue to actively strengthen regional partnerships and contribute to better environmental protection and sustainable development of the Western Balkans.
