The Ministry of Ecology, Sustainable Development and Northern Development (MERS) rejected the appeal of the residents of Botun against the decision of the Environmental Protection Agency, which approved the study on the impact assessment for the project to build a wastewater treatment plant (collector) in that Zeta settlement.

This was confirmed to "Vijesti" by several sources. The editorial team is awaiting responses from MERS regarding a second appeal against the same decision of the Agency, filed by the Municipality of Zeta.

This appeal by the Municipality of Zeta is one of the reasons why the Ministry of Spatial Planning, Urbanism and State Property issued a decision recognizing the Municipality of Zeta as a party in the proceedings between the Capital City and the Podgorica-based company 'Vodovod i kanalizacija' for the issuance of a building permit for the construction of a wastewater treatment system in Botun.

This solution allows the Municipality of Zeta to dispute the construction permit for the collector if it were issued by Radunović's department.

The Zeta Municipality's appeal against the issued building permit could, the editorial office was told earlier, be enough to prolong the deadlines for the start of construction, and thus activate clauses on the payment of sanctions. It was also explained that it is not clear how the Zeta Municipality can be a party to the proceedings because the demarcation has not yet taken place, and the plots intended for the construction of the collector are registered in the Capital.

At the proposal of Radunović's department, the Government of Milojko Spajić this summer adopted the Spatial and Urban Plan of Montenegro, which, in addition to the construction of the plant in Botun, also envisages the construction of another, similar, plant in the municipality of Zeta.

The construction of the collector is opposed by the residents of Botuni, the Municipality of Zeta and the Democratic People's Party of Milan Knežević, who has threatened that representatives of his party will "overthrow" the government in Podgorica if the project is implemented. They claim that the construction of the collector would negatively affect the environment and people's health, and the residents have said that they will "defend their village with the only thing they have - their lives".

NOTE: The first version of the text stated that the appeal of the Municipality of Zeta was rejected, which turned out to be incorrect information. We apologize to the readers and the Municipality of Zeta.
