The State Prosecutor's Office of Montenegro should continue to act autonomously and independently, free from any pressure, it was assessed at a meeting between Supreme State Prosecutor Milorad Marković and the French Ambassador to Montenegro Anne-Marie Maske.
As announced by the Supreme State Prosecutor's Office (SPO), Marković emphasized that only if the prosecution acts professionally and independently, without political or any other influence, can the citizens of Montenegro be sure of the justice and legality of the institutions' actions.
"The prosecution must act professionally and in accordance with the highest international standards, so that the fight against crime and corruption is effective," said Marković.
Maske said that she strongly supports the independent work of the Montenegrin prosecutor's office, which, as she stated, is crucial for strengthening citizens' trust in a democratic society.
Maske emphasized that she is satisfied with the cooperation so far, which is yielding concrete and visible results.
"French institutions are a reliable partner for the State Prosecutor's Office on the path towards European integration and strengthening the rule of law," said Maske.
The VDT statement states that Maske and Marković agreed that justice must be equal and achievable for every citizen of Montenegro.
