As part of the cross-border project "Thematic Travel along the Cultural and Natural Heritage Corridor of Serbia and Montenegro (Creative Twinning)", funded by the European Union, an educational workshop for tourism service providers from Montenegro and Serbia was held in Žabljak from 1 to 3 November 2025.
The topic of the workshop was "Creating experiences of cultural and natural heritage through tourism, using the example of the Creative Twinning thematic product".
The workshop was organized by the Center for Sustainable Tourism Initiatives (CSTI) from Podgorica, and was intended for hiking guides, travel agencies, and local tourism organizations from both countries.
Participants had the opportunity to learn about contemporary trends in creating tourist tours and interpretive guiding techniques, with the aim of improving the quality of destination experiences.
During the workshop, one of the key results of the project was also presented - the future tourism product "Creative Twinning", which CSTI Montenegro will present to the market by the end of November 2025.
This product will interpret the natural and cultural heritage of the medieval period, in line with the expectations of modern tourists.
"Creative Twinning" is intended for domestic and foreign visitors, lovers of culture, history and nature.
Four thematic trails with interpretation boards and tourist signage have already been created for them in the Prokletije, Durmitor and Biogradska Gora National Parks.
Project partners from Serbia work in a similar way, valorizing their cultural and natural heritage.
The visibility of the joint product, which will be managed by local tourism organizations of both countries, will be enhanced through a joint tourist brochure, website and mobile application.
The project "Thematic Travel along the Cultural and Natural Heritage Corridor of Serbia and Montenegro (Creative Twinning)" is being implemented within the framework of the Montenegro-Serbia cross-border program, through the EU Instrument for Pre-Accession Assistance - IPA.
Implementation began on March 1, 2021, and completion is planned for November 30, 2025.
The total value of the project in Montenegro is over 178.000 euros, of which the European Union is funding 85 percent, while the Ministry of Public Administration is co-financing the remaining 15 percent.
The project leader is the Regional Agency for Spatial and Economic Development of the Raška and Moravička Districts from Kraljevo, in partnership with the Center for Sustainable Tourism Initiatives (CSTI) from Podgorica.
