A group of Mojkovci residents protested today, drawing attention to what they said was the months-long problem of a complete blockade of the city due to the reconstruction of a square in the city.

The gathered called for an urgent response from the competent institutions, primarily the inspectorate, due to the “inexplicably slow reconstruction of the square and the renewal of the infrastructure network in the city center.” They claim that the work is brutally violating the law and harassing the citizens of Mojkovac.

As explained at the protest: "The contractor, contrary to applicable legal regulations, has begun the reconstruction of the square and streets in the center of Mojkovac and has put citizens in a situation where they do not have a regular supply of water or electricity almost every day, due to the rupture of underground lines."

Allegedly, these works are causing irregular water and electricity supplies for up to two days at a time.

"Due to the activities and delays in the works, there is constant damage to citizens, and many citizens are forced to move across the canal, which is up to one meter deep. Many of them, especially the elderly, have suffered injuries while moving through the excavated square and its approaches, which represents, to say the least, a scandal and nonsense in the current practice of carrying out works and reconstruction," the meeting said.

Some of the participants claim that the work has not begun in accordance with regulations, that the contractor does not have a building permit, and that the work is being carried out by an inexperienced company with only a few workers.

They also say that the foundations of buildings have been undermined, that residents cannot access their homes, deliver wood or groceries, and that assistance cannot be provided to the elderly.
