Vesna Pejović, whose daughter Nataša and grandchildren Mašan and Marko were killed in Cetinje on August 12, 2022, announced that citizens participating in the three-hour blockades of the Cetinje - Podgorica road will radicalize the protest.
The statement provided to the editorial team did not clarify what this entails.
In 2022, Vuk Borilović, a resident of Cetinje, killed ten and wounded six people in the Medovina settlement.
"I, Vesna Pejović, a mother and grandmother who lost her daughter and two grandchildren in Medovina, am addressing the public because I no longer have the patience for the silence that I cannot bear. In addition, I want to inform the Montenegrin public that the responsibility for the three-hour blockade of the Cetinje - Podgorica road lies solely with state institutions. With their irresponsibility, covering up the truth and attempts to forget two mass crimes in Cetinje. For years, I have been searching for the truth, justice and at least one honest person in the institutions of this state. Since that day, the state has not only abandoned me, but has also humiliated and betrayed me. For years, I have been addressing institutions that are called 'competent', but not a single door I have knocked on was the door of justice, but the door of deception," said Pejović.
She says she is not asking for anything that does not belong to her, but "the truth about the death of her children and the responsibility of those who should have prevented it and did not", just as "they did not prevent the massacre on January 1st of this year".
"Instead, the institutions welcomed me as a burden, as a problem that needs to be hidden or removed, and not as a mother seeking justice. This is my voice and my warning: I will not stop and I will not retreat. I will not agree to my family being the victim of someone's cover-up, political calculations and manipulation. You broke my children, but you did not me. I will seek the truth while I breathe, and those who today think they can deceive, intimidate or silence me, should know that they will not get away with it. The people standing at Kruševo Ždrjel are not standing there just because of me and my children, but because of all those who suffered in Medovina and on January 1 in Cetinje. These are people who see injustice, who do not agree to silence and who have found the strength to stand with me against the system that has been silent for years, and for the last year has ignored it. Their support is proof that the truth cannot be suppressed, no matter how much the government has tried to suppress it. Let it be completely clear: these people do not belong to anyone, they do not manipulated, not driven by interest. I guess they are the conscience of this people. They stand there because they don't want the Cetinje crimes to be swept under the carpet, nor for anyone to ever go through what I went through. It never happened again," said Pejović.
She told Prime Minister Milojko Spajić, institutions and everyone who "thinks they will tire me out or force me to give up" that she will not stop.
"All I ask for is truth, responsibility and justice. I must also emphasize that the biggest disappointment for me personally was Prime Minister Milojko Spajić. The man who should have been the first to react, the first to show concern, the first to fight for the truth. He received me, said his piece, promised... and then disappeared. That is neither leadership nor responsibility, that is escape. And let the entire country hear it. And after everything said and promised, there is nothing left for me, together with the people from whom I have support in my demands, except to publicly announce a more radical approach to our protest at Kruševo Ždrijel," the statement reads.
