The construction of the Western Bypass, Vojislavljević Boulevard, the Fair and Congress Center, the renovation of Božana Vučinić Square, the "Podgoričanka" department store, and the reconstruction of the Crooked Bridge are among the major projects that the city government in Podgorica will dedicate itself to in the next five years.
This was announced today, among other things, during the central discussion on the Draft Strategic Development Plan of the Capital City for the period from 2026 to 2031. Director of the Agency for Construction and Development of Podgorica Bajko Vučićević said that the draft document included 51 projects "through a clear hierarchy of goals".
"We did not include projects worth less than 2,5 million euros in the Draft Strategic Development Plan, but it may happen that new ones will be included," explained Vučićević.
The draft Strategic Development Plan for the Capital City was put up for public debate almost two weeks ago, and citizens, councilors, and directors of city companies participated in the central discussion on the document.
Thus, a little over 20 million euros have been allocated for the construction of the Western Bypass, and according to Vučić, the length of the route is 3.000 meters.
He also announced that the construction of Vojislavljevića Boulevard is the second major project that the Capital City will focus on in the coming period.
"The Capital City is participating in this part with almost 5,3 million euros. The continuation of the Save Kovačević Boulevard is a project about which we had a series of meetings with the Railway Infrastructure. We considered the possibility of building an overpass, but after a series of meetings with professors, we determined that they do not exist. The estimated value of the works for this project is around nine million euros," said Vučićević.
He announced that the reconstruction of the II Montenegrin Battalion Street is planned, and that the value of the works is 2,5 million euros.
"The Agency for Construction and Development of Podgorica has issued a public call several times. We did not have any interested bidders at those, but we will not give up on it. A promenade along the Morača River, about two kilometers long, is also planned. The value is 4,5 million euros."
Vučićević pointed out that the city administration had "a series of meetings regarding the construction of the 'Legat' house," adding that they are currently working on the geodetic base of the terrain. The project, he points out, will cost around 200.000 euros.
According to the document, around 6,5 million euros are planned for the construction of the new Krivi most, while 7,5 million euros will be allocated for the one in Rogami.
The Sports Center (SC) "Ljubović" will be renovated, and the works will cost almost 165.000 euros. Vučićevič said that the reconstruction contract was signed last week, and that they have 80 working days to implement the project.
According to the Draft Strategic Plan, the new department store "Podgoričanka" will be built for 10 million euros, while 30 million euros have been allocated for the "City Apartment" project.
The plan also includes the construction of the Fair and Congress Center, which would cost around 30 million euros, the development of the Lješkopoljska Gorica forest park, and the construction of the eastern stand of the City Stadium is planned for more than 26 million euros.
A multi-purpose facility will also be built in Zabjelo – a health center.
"The estimated value of the construction of the facility is 9,5 million euros. Work will also be done on the Athletic Stadium. The project leader is the Government of Montenegro in cooperation with the Capital City," said Vučićević.
Councilor of the Movement for Podgorica, Dragutin Vučinić, asked Vučićević "what of these projects are planned to be carried out in the surroundings of the capital city."
He replied that the bridge in Rogami was part of the Strategic Plan, but that they "cannot yet estimate how much that project could cost."
"We would be frivolous if we entered data on projects we know nothing about. If a need arises for new projects, it does not mean that those that are not in the strategic plan will not be implemented," he said.
