The International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women reminds us that violence is not the personal fate of individuals, but a serious social problem that requires a decisive and unified response, said Minister of Sports and Youth Dragoslav Šćekić.

"Today we are not just talking about dates and statistics. We are talking about women who suffer in silence, about mothers, sisters and daughters whose lives have been cut short by violence – about femicide that must stop. Violence against women is not a private matter. It is a deep wound in society and a question of basic human dignity. Every woman has the right to live without fear, without threats and without pain. It is time to say clearly: there is no justification for violence. There is no excuse for silence," Šćekić said in a press release.

He said that support for victims must be strong, real and unconditional.

"The responsibility lies with all of us - to react, to protect, to not turn a blind eye and to clearly stand in defense of the life and dignity of every woman," the statement concludes.
