The Municipality of Mojkovac announced that an action to collect objects of cultural, historical and ethnographic significance is underway, the goal of which is "to form the first exhibition displays of the future Mojkovac Museum, the opening of which is planned in the coming period."
By establishing the museum, the local government wants to create a space that will uniquely preserve and present the tradition, customs, history, and identity of the Mojkovac region. The goal is for the museum to become a central place for preserving the rich heritage and passing on knowledge to future generations.
"The Municipality of Mojkovac invites all citizens who possess material traces of Mojkovac's past to consider the possibility of transferring them to the future Museum. Each object, regardless of size or age, can have significant value for understanding and presenting local history. The contribution of citizens will be of exceptional importance for preserving the cultural and historical heritage of Mojkovac. In this way, a place is jointly built that will serve as a source of knowledge and inspiration for both current and future generations. The Museum will be a space in which memories of the lives of ancestors, their struggle, creativity and everyday life will be preserved, but also a space that will provide visitors with the opportunity to learn about the rich tradition of this region," the Municipality said.
During the summer, the local government announced that it was initiating the process of establishing the Mojkovac Museum, a public institution, which, as explained, "opens a new chapter in the preservation of local cultural heritage, history and identity."
Mojkovac is among the few municipalities in Montenegro without a city museum, which, as the President of the Municipal Assembly previously told "Vijesti", Marko Janketić, jeopardized the preservation of valuable artifacts, especially those from the archaeological site of Brskovo and the site of the Battle of Mojkovac.
"Without such an important institution as the city museum, our history, traditions, artifacts and stories risk being lost or forgotten. Numerous objects from the archaeological site of Brskovo and the sites where the timeless Battle of Mojkovac took place are scattered in cultural institutions of other municipalities and private museum collections. In cooperation with relevant experts in the field of museology, we have begun this large, complex and long-term process," Janketić said at the time.
He also said that "museum material with museum documentation located at the Center for Archaeological Research of Montenegro, museums in Berane and Bijelo Polje, as well as private collections that the owners are transferring to the future museum in Mojkovac, provide minimal conditions for the establishment of an independent public institution for carrying out museum activities, with the prospect of further development. Financing will be provided from the municipal budget, own revenues, donations and other sources, and funds for the start of work have been provided by the budget rebalance."
The museum, according to the Municipality, should play a vital role in collecting, preserving and presenting cultural assets, encouraging education, strengthening common identity and developing tourism.
It is planned that the museum will be located in the city center, with modern conditions for storing and displaying exhibits.
