Residents of the Local Community (MZ) Prošćenje in Mojkovac today, similar to last year, by blocking the main road near the old bridge for half an hour, appealed to the Government of Montenegro and the relevant ministries to finally start building the road to their village. Although the project documentation exists, the road infrastructure to Prošćenje, as they point out, has been bypassed in the state's capital budget for years.
The representative of the Prošćenje Local Community, Dragoslav Mijo Jokić, who is also a United Montenegro councilor in the local parliament, reminded that the construction of a prison was planned along the road to Prošćenje and that there is still no official information from the Government whether the project has been abandoned.
"However, we locals are interested in a road in that direction. The local government in Mojkovac has already developed a road project that would stretch from the location planned for the prison to the center of the village. The locals are now demanding that the road be implemented. We are asking for at least three to four kilometers to be completed this year or next. We are not pushy, but we are demanding our rights," said Jokić.
He reminds that Prošćenje is a village where an eight-year school with 32 students still operates today and where over 200 households live, which, he said, further emphasizes the need for adequate infrastructure.
The Mojkovac Municipality, says Jokić, has solved the problem of water supply to the village, three kilometers of lighting have been installed, project documentation for water supply to the Prošćenički mountains has been prepared... However, claims Jokić, the road is a pressing and long-standing problem.
"From the 90s until 2020, this village was a hostage to the wrong policy, but now we are waiting and we don't know how long we will have to wait. The municipality sent the project to the Government, but the funds for its implementation were not received. A request was sent to the Ministry of Finance to include it in the capital budget this time, but that did not happen," he said.
The villagers are demanding an urgent meeting with the Speaker of the Parliament, Andrija Mandić, and the Prime Minister, Milojko Spajić. Jokić called on all northern MPs to support the villagers of Prošćenje in their efforts to get a road to the village.
"This road along the right bank of the Tara River would contribute to the development of Mojkovac's agriculture and tourism. The potential for development is evident, considering that work is currently underway on the construction of five ethno villages on the right bank of the Tara River, for whose development an adequate road connection would be crucial," he said.
Jokić did not rule out the possibility of a more radical protest if the Government and relevant departments ignore their demands.
