The Supreme State Prosecutor of Montenegro, Milorad Marković, and the Chief State Prosecutor of the Republic of Slovenia, Katarina Bergant, signed a Memorandum of Cooperation, a document that lays the foundations for a more modern, efficient and open operation of the prosecutors' offices of both countries.

This was announced by the Supreme State Prosecutor's Office (SPP).

As stated in the statement, in addition to Marković, Chief Special Prosecutor Vladimir Novović and State Prosecutor Jelena Đaletić had the opportunity to exchange experiences and good practices in organized crime and corruption cases with Slovenian prosecutors and discuss improving cooperation.

"By signing the Memorandum, Montenegro and Slovenia confirm their joint commitment to strengthening professional standards, improving the fight against crime and developing modern, digitally transformed prosecutorial systems, including the development and implementation of modern information solutions," the statement said.

The State Prosecutor's Office explains that the Memorandum includes a more intensive exchange of knowledge, experiences and good practices in the fight against crime, especially organized crime, money laundering, human trafficking and migrant smuggling.

"It also envisages the organization of regular annual and thematic meetings, the establishment of contact points in both institutions," the statement said.

Marković emphasized that the signing of the Memorandum represents a significant step towards creating a safer, fairer and more transparent prosecution, in which the institutions of both countries can respond more quickly and efficiently to modern security challenges.

"This cooperation is not just formal, but an expression of our intention to build strong, modern institutions that can respond to the needs of citizens and substantially contribute to strengthening the rule of law. Digitalization and efficiency in work will be areas that we will further develop together with our colleagues from the Republic of Slovenia," said Marković.

"These activities were implemented with the support of the EU4FAST regional project of the European Union," the statement concludes.
