Mrkić: One nurse was fired, disciplinary proceedings were initiated against another

The director of the Nikšić General Hospital, Zoran Mrkić, reacted to the article "Death of a newborn in a hospital in Nikšić: Baby was unattended, nurses' statements contradictory" published on the Vijesti portal.

"The allegations about the dismissal of one of the nurses have nothing to do with the unclear formulations about the termination of employment or possible denials of the minister's allegations about the dismissal. The Director of the Nikšić General Hospital, Dr. Zoran Mrkić, wanted to clarify why in this case only one nurse was dismissed, and not both.

A nurse was fired by not renewing her employment contract because it was determined that she did not follow the prescribed procedures and standards in performing her duties. The decision was made based on the findings of an internal and external commission, while the autopsy report is still awaited. The dismissal is not a play on words, but the termination of employment is the result of the procedures implemented and the established facts.

Disciplinary proceedings have been initiated against the second nurse, which are being conducted in accordance with legal regulations. The public will be informed of the outcome of these proceedings in due course.

"The Nikšić General Hospital takes great care to comply with all legal procedures, as this respects the hospital, the Ministry of Health, and legal regulations. We ask the media to cooperate in accordance with the law and current practice, bearing in mind that such cases are extremely sensitive, and the goal of all of us is to resolve them as soon as possible and in the best possible way," Mrkić wrote in his response.
