Minister of Ecology, Sustainable Development and Northern Development Damjan Ćulafić, Mayor of Mojkovac Vesko Delić, and President of the Municipal Assembly Marko Jakentić officially closed the Zakršnica temporary landfill.
As announced by the Ministry of Ecology, Sustainable Development and Northern Development, this landfill has long posed a major environmental problem, especially due to its proximity to the Tara River, and the work carried out cost 4,22 million euros.
During the official closure of the landfill, Ćulafić pointed out that this is yet another proof of how much municipalities in the north have progressed when it comes to environmental protection.
"Today we stand in a beautiful and clean natural environment that, unfortunately, should never have been covered with waste and thus tarnishes the image of Mojkovac, but also of all of Montenegro," said Ćulafić.
He added that the situation is similar with the rehabilitation of Mislov do in Nikšić, which was rehabilitated right at the beginning of his mandate.
Ćulafić said that on Wednesday in Nikšić, the location of the future Regional Waste Management Center, which will solve the waste management system in the central part of the country, was agreed in principle.
"We are in dialogue with the Municipality of Bijelo Polje regarding determining the location of the Regional Center in that municipality, in order to provide a reliable waste disposal system for this part of northern Montenegro," said Ćulafić.
He recalled that the National Waste Management Plan, which was adopted after more than five years, provides for the closure of all illegal landfills in Montenegro.
