The Municipality of Kolašin, in cooperation with the Eco Fund, has implemented a project to green and develop the space along the city promenade by the Tara River. After last year, the local government developed the Main Design for the development of that area and successfully applied for funds in the Eco Fund's public call.
"In the previous year, work was carried out to prepare the terrain, with an area of about 10.000 square meters being landscaped, which is completely covered with a new layer of soil. During the summer, the Municipality announced a tender for the procurement of about 320 seedlings, and after the procurement procedure was completed, planting began. The total value of the implemented project is about 70.000 euros, of which the Eco Fund is providing approximately 50.000 euros through co-financing," the Kolašin local government announced.
They announce that in the coming period, the main design of the irrigation system for the area will be prepared, which, they explain, will further improve the maintenance of the newly formed green areas.
The Eco Fund previously told "Vijesti" that "when selecting plant species, environmental conditions, dimensions, colors and shapes were taken into account." The proposed species, they explained, are decorative, and the combination of coniferous and evergreen tree species, quality lawns and decorative shrub species provides a positive effect of greenery in all seasons.
The municipality and the civil sector have already attempted to green the promenade. However, those seedlings, planted several years ago, have now been almost completely destroyed by neglect and vandalism.
The promenade on the right bank of the Tara River was opened in 2014. The majority of the 300.000 euros was financed by a grant from the European Union, and the construction was also supported by the Government of Montenegro, through the Directorate of Public Works, and the Municipality of Kolašin.
