The leader of the Democratic People's Party (DNP), Milan Knežević, claims that the police have been visiting the location where the people of Botunja have set up tents for several days, which is planned for the construction of a wastewater treatment plant (collector), testing their willingness to remain in that place.
He revealed this when asked by a "Vijesti" journalist whether he knew why the Police Directorate was visiting the village of Botun.
After asking Knežević a question, two residents of Botun approached the "Vijesti" journalist, suggesting that he take their side and "harm" them with his questions.
The journalist told them that he was doing his job and taking an objective stance, and a few minutes later they came forward to explain what they meant by the suggestions. Representatives of the people of Botunja apologized on their behalf.
According to Knežević, the inspector cars, the uniformed police and "the very fact that traffic was stopped today meant that we needed to gather here."
Several hundred residents of the municipalities of Zeta and Botuna gathered today at the location planned for the construction of the collector. after Knežević called on them via social media this morning to "urgently head there", claiming that the police were preparing an intervention against protesting citizens.
The Police Directorate subsequently announced that a planned operation called "Gravel" was being carried out in the territory of Podgorica, with the aim of controlling persons who illegally exploit and transport sand.
"I call on the Police Directorate to say today who it arrested while stealing gravel in Morača," said Knežević.
He said he suspects that the police are testing citizens' willingness to stay at the location, adding that "they do this repeatedly in both morning and midnight situations."
The DNP leader said he supports questioning people who exploit gravel, but that others who do so should also be arrested.
Knežević also said that the police repeatedly visit the location where the Botunjani are located, adding that this reminds him of "the Indians when they were fenced into a reservation."
"We are like Indians. We must not think about why the police are passing by and checking citizens' IDs."
