This year, on the eve of the New Year holidays, the Rotary Club of Ulcinj will once again distribute thousands of "Shoebox gift packages" to the children of Montenegro, which have been delivered to the club's address by Rotarians from Southampton, a city in southern England, for 22 years.
"From the south of England, Wessex Rotary District 1110, several thousand 'Shoebox' gift packages for the children of Montenegro have arrived at the address of the Rotary Club Ulcinj-Ulqin again this year. The Rotary Club Ulcinj-Ulqin, as the project leader, will proportionally distribute the packages to all Rotary clubs in Montenegro in the coming days, which, in cooperation with the Centers for Social Work, will, on the eve of the New Year holidays, distribute gifts prepared for them by their peers from Southampton to the youngest," the statement from the Rotary Club Ulcinj says.
It is stated that the gifts will first be given to children with special needs and children from poor financial circumstances, while the rest will be distributed to preschool children.
"We would like to remind you that the 'Shoebox' project was conceived and initiated 22 years ago by Peter Manuer, then a member of the Rotary Club of Southampton South, and Gani Resulbegović, then a member of the Rotary Club of Budva, later the Rotary Club of Ulcinj. It is worth noting that during 22 years of close cooperation, thanks to the Rotary Club of Ulcinj-Ulqin and other Rotary clubs of Montenegro, the children of Montenegro from the famous port in the south of England received around 235 thousand gift packages with a total value of more than 3,5 million euros," the statement reads.
The Rotary Club of Ulcinj thanked the Red Cross of Montenegro for its help in importing gift packages "as well as all the people of good will who selflessly help make the humanitarian action a success."
"On the occasion of the arrival of the valuable donation, the Rotary Club Ulcinj-Ulqin is organizing a special ceremony to be held on December 13th at 7:00 PM at the beach restaurant 'Sapore Di Mare' in Borova Šuma. We invite all media representatives and other interested parties to follow the event that promotes the brilliant twenty-two-year cooperation of Rotarians from two cities from distant countries with a clear goal - to make our children happy across the country on the eve of the holidays and to encourage commitment to providing humanitarian aid," it says at the end.
