KRIK Serbia journalist Branislav Grković said that institutions in Serbia are almost completely closed to the media and that the situation is so bad that, as he stated, "everything I hear here seems like a luxury - you are happy compared to us."
He said this today at the 18th National Anti-Corruption Conference, organized in Podgorica by the Network for the Affirmation of the Non-Governmental Sector (MANS).
Grković stated that KRIK determined that Serbian Defense Minister Bratislav Gašić has assets worth around 23 million euros.
"We discovered that, while he was mayor of Kruševac, he was giving city money to a television station owned by his wife," he said.
He added that the research also revealed that Serbian Finance Minister Siniša Mali financed his children's education through offshore companies.
Grković reminded that the KRIK editorial team is facing great pressure, including a case in which "a judge sued KRIK and requested a ban on carrying out journalistic activities."
"KRIK is the editorial office with the most SLAPP lawsuits. It drains nerves and energy," he said.
Grdinić: "We will continue to advocate for the criminalization of illicit enrichment"
MANS researcher Lazar Grdinić said that the organization will continue to advocate for the introduction of the criminal offense of illicit enrichment.
He presented the portal www.imovinafunkcionera.me, a publicly available online register of property and income of Montenegrin public officials, which allows citizens, journalists and institutions to check changes in the assets of officials and their compliance with official income.
