The Parliament of Montenegro and the National Parks of Montenegro (NPCG) concluded a Memorandum of Cooperation today, with the aim of promoting the education of young people about the importance of preserving natural and cultural values and protecting the environment.
The document, signed in the parliament building by the Secretary General of the Assembly Boban Stanišić and director of NPCG Marinela Đuretić, The implementation of joint activities is planned to encourage school-age children to become familiar with the natural and cultural values of national parks, and to acquire knowledge about environmental protection in the context of democratic processes and social order, as well as the role of the Parliament in adopting regulations governing the field of environmental protection.
"The Assembly will, among other things, facilitate the holding of educational workshops within the framework of the 'Barbara Pramer' Democratic Workshop program on the importance of protecting nature and the environment, while simultaneously encouraging young people's interest in democratic processes, dialogue and cooperation," said Stanišić when signing the document.
The memorandum also includes other forms of cooperation, such as visits to NPCG visitor centers, as well as joint design and celebration of significant environmental dates, including World Environmental Education Day, European Parks Day, World Mountain Day, Earth Day, Forest Day and Wetlands Day, the National Parks announced.
Đuretić thanked the Educational Center of the Parliament for, as announced, recognizing the importance of closer cooperation with the national parks of Montenegro for the purpose of educating the school population.
"One of the key strategic goals of the JPNPCG is the education of children and young people about the most significant natural and cultural values of all five protected areas, within which, in cooperation with schools and other educational institutions, for more than a decade and a half, we have been encouraging the improvement of knowledge about nature conservation and the overall environment. In this context, we recognize the importance of signing the Memorandum of Cooperation with the Parliament of Montenegro and organizing a series of joint activities that will contribute to better knowledge of natural values, as well as understanding the importance of nature conservation," said Đuretić.
Stanišić emphasized the importance of education about the natural resources of our country for all ages and expressed his readiness for the Parliament to support such, but also other activities that would contribute to a better understanding of national parks by all citizens, especially young people. "Stanišić also underlined the importance of environmental protection and emphasized that the Parliament, as a key institution of the system, can certainly contribute to ensuring that issues in this area receive the importance they deserve, both through cooperation in the field of education and at other levels"; the statement reads.
