Urban and suburban transport in Pljevlja will most likely begin operating by the end of the year, it was confirmed to "Vijesti" by the local administration and the municipal company Lokalni putevi, which will be part of that working unit.

Citizens are eagerly awaiting the first rides, hoping that they will make their everyday lives easier after more than fifteen years without organized public transportation.

President of the Municipality Dario Vranes He told "Vijesti" that they purchased five "Mercedes" minibuses with 4x4 drive, for which 175.000 euros were spent.

"Every day we expect public transport to start operating. Everything is ready, we are just waiting for the homologation at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering to be completed. The lines have been determined, two in the city and suburban areas. The stops have also been determined, that is, everything that the Traffic Law prescribes," said Vraneš.

He added that the departure times are coordinated with the departure and arrival of children from school.

It was previously announced that the transport would begin operating on September 1st, but that deadline was extended due to delays caused by tender procedures during the procurement of vehicles.

Transportation will be organized as a separate working unit within the municipal company Local Roads, which guarantees institutional support and its stable functioning.

Director of Local Roads Darko Gacevic He said that all that remains is to sign a contract with the Municipality on entrusting the work, and then to obtain a license issued by the Secretariat for Economy.

He said that two minibuses will operate around the city. One will depart from the Roads Section headquarters in Židovići, and the other from the Guke settlement. The other minibuses will operate towards the villages.

According to unofficial information, initially transportation will be free for all citizens.

The decision to establish public transportation, according to the local administration, comes at a time when taxi prices in Pljevlja are among the highest in the region.

"In May of this year, we also rented adequate space for vehicle accommodation and maintenance because the Municipality did not have adequate conditions for this and we believe that this is a temporary solution. We expect that the state will help us build adequate facilities for vehicle accommodation and maintenance because this is one of the crucial issues for the functioning of the Municipality. The development and progress of an environment simply cannot occur without good and functional traffic. In this way, we can help sports clubs, pensioner associations and other numerous organizations in our city in particular," said Vraneš.

Until about fifteen years ago, Pljevlja had well-developed urban and suburban transport, which was shut down due to the increasing emigration of the population over the past two decades.
