The People's Trust Movement (PNP) expressed concern about the alarming and long-standing air pollution in Pljevlja.
"For years, citizens of Pljevlja have been living in conditions that seriously threaten their health and quality of life. The PNP clearly emphasizes that the citizens of Pljevlja have an undeniable right to healthy air, but also the right to institutional protection, timely information and concrete assistance in periods of extreme pollution. It is necessary for the competent authorities to take warning measures without delay, organize health and social support, provide alternative heating solutions where possible, as well as other forms of assistance to citizens," the organizing committee of the Pljevlja People's Trust Movement writes in a statement.
They add that it is the responsibility of the competent institutions to react in a timely, coordinated and transparent manner.
"The PNP calls on the relevant ministries and local governments to urgently define and implement short-term and long-term measures to protect the health of the population, with constant monitoring of air quality and regular public information. Regardless of the fact that air pollution in Pljevlja has been a decades-old problem, we must not look for an alibi in that fact. We are all aware that Pljevlja has been deliberately neglected for years, but those who today have responsibility and the ability to make decisions must show willingness and initiative to take at least one tangible and concrete step towards improving the situation," the statement reads, among other things.
