The greatest defeat for Montenegrin society and democracy would be the use of force against peaceful citizens of Botun, said Botun resident Jagoš Bećirović today.
He told reporters after a meeting between Botun's representative and the Head of the European Union (EU) Delegation to Montenegro, Johann Sattler, which was held today at the EU Delegation in Podgorica.
The conversation between Satler and representatives of the residents of the Zeta village of Botun, who oppose the construction of a wastewater treatment plant in that village, ended shortly before noon, and, as announced, the dialogue will continue in the coming period.
The representative of the residents of Botuni, Slavko Vukčević, said that they responded to the invitation of the ambassador, who listened to their views and problems, and showed willingness to engage in further talks.
According to him, the Municipality of Zeta will also be included in the continuation of the dialogue, and the goal is to conduct the talks in a broader format in order to find a solution for relocating the planned location.
Vukčević told reporters that after the referendum, the will of the citizens was clearly expressed, stating that the residents of Zeta unanimously voted against the construction of the plant in Botun.
"We are ready for talks, but not only as residents of Botun, but to include all relevant stakeholders in order to find a solution for relocating the location," said Vukčević.
He stated that they had also conveyed to Satler their objections regarding the process so far, emphasizing that the locals are not responsible for previously signed contracts, which were concluded without their consent. He added that the choice of location and the technology of the planned facility were also questioned.
When asked by reporters about the possible holding of a local assembly, Vukčević said that the citizens had already expressed their opinion, and that, as he stated, he did not see the need for an additional convening of one for now.
Zeta said "no" to the wastewater treatment plant in Botun yesterday - according to preliminary results, almost 8.000 Zeta residents do not want a collector in their neighborhood.
The residents of Botuni expect that official Podgorica will respect Zeta's position.
