President Jakov Milatović said that in Montenegro "no one should be left to their own devices."
Today, he addressed representatives of the Montenegrin economy and the Red Cross, thanking them for their participation in the campaign launched on the occasion of the Day of the Fight against Poverty.
Milatović said that, thanks to donations from companies, 170.000 euros were collected and that the funds were fully transferred to the Montenegrin Red Cross, which will provide food and hygiene packages for families across the country.
"It's not a small thing when a person has nothing. It's not a small thing when a family doesn't have the basics. It's not a small thing when a child goes to bed hungry," Milatović said, as announced by his office.
He recalled that the Red Cross keeps precise records of families in a state of complete social need and stressed that it is crucial that aid reaches every family and every municipality fairly and evenly.
"Today we are not ending one action, but rather setting a rule that success is not measured only by profit, but also by how much we care for each other," Milatović emphasized.
Emphasizing that there will be more such initiatives, the President of the country called on companies to continue the "wave of solidarity" and partnership with the Red Cross, so that the support has concrete and measurable results on the ground.
The President of the Red Cross of Montenegro, Mitar Vučković, thanked Milatović for his initiative and the contribution of the business community, saying that, thanks to this action, 2.200 Montenegrin families will receive the necessary assistance this winter, and that the Red Cross will provide around 1.200 one-time aid and manage to at least partially provide for a total of 3.400 vulnerable households in Montenegro.
The director of Mtel Montenegro, Zoran Milovanović, welcomed Milatović's initiative and pointed out the importance of greater involvement of the economy in similar actions.
"We joined this donation campaign with great joy, because we saw an opportunity to participate in a different way in improving the lives of those who need help the most," said Milovanović.
