The Institute for Children's Diseases of the Clinical Center of Montenegro announced the Eclipse – 25 functional hearing testing device.

The device is worth more than 58.000 euros, and the funds were provided mostly from donations, reports Media Biro.

The Director of the Institute for Children's Diseases, Dr. Velibor Majić, pointed out that a modern device for diagnosing hearing impairment in children has been provided. He emphasizes that the new device will facilitate the process of hearing diagnostics, both for medical staff and patients.

"For some procedures performed by this device, patients had to be referred to regional centers. The examination is now shorter, but also more reliable. This is a great benefit for all children who have hearing problems and other balance problems. Children are the future of every country, and this device and our staff - Dr. Milena and Dr. Danilo, will contribute to their proper development and full integration into the education system," said Majić.

Dr. Milena Pupović, specialist in otolaryngology and subspecialist in audiology at the Institute for Children's Diseases, further explained how the device will function and what its benefits will be.

"This device has significantly reduced the length of the examination because now the examination is performed exclusively in natural sleep or under general anesthesia. Previously, it took us two and a half hours to determine the hearing threshold in children, now we complete the examination in about 45 minutes. We have a large number of children with hearing aids for whom it is important to determine the hearing threshold for each frequency. This year, about 9.000 scheduled patients passed through the ENT clinic, 9.000 through the emergency clinic, and about 900 children through the audiological care cabinet. Of these, almost 10 percent require this treatment. This year, about 200 functional hearing tests and some 900 audiometry tests were performed, which is a large number," she said.

The Institute was visited by the Executive Director of the Montenegrin Electricity Distribution System (CEDIS), Vladimir Ivanović, with advisor Jagoš Pupović.

CEDIS provided 30.000 euros for the purchase of the devices, while the Montenegrin Army donated more than 9.000, the Parliament of Montenegro and the company "Concord Invest" donated 5.000 each, the NGO Bajker nearly 1.000 euros, and the remaining part, more than 8.000 euros, was provided by the KCCG from its own funds.

The donation in the amount of 30.000 euros was implemented based on the donation contract signed in April between CEDIS and KCCG.

Ivanović said that CEDIS wants to make a concrete contribution to strengthening the healthcare system and improving the treatment conditions for children in Montenegro.

"We believe that this device will significantly improve diagnostics, make the work of medical staff easier, and contribute to better health care for our children," he said.
