The Government of Montenegro has today decided to temporarily suspend the recognition of diplomas for employment purposes, obtained at Megatrend University in Serbia, in order to protect the public interest, "Vijesti" has learned unofficially.
Education authorities in Serbia recently revoked the operating licenses of this private university and its constituent units - the Faculty of Culture and Media, the Faculty of Business Studies, the Faculty of Art and Design, the Faculty of Law, and the Faculty of Geoeconomics.
As stated by the Ministry of Education of Serbia, and reported by N1, the reason for such a decision is the fact that one year has passed since the finality of the decision to reject or dismiss the application for accreditation of these higher education institutions, because they did not submit an application for accreditation of the higher education institution and study programs no later than one year before the expiration of the valid accreditation, and their previously valid accreditation has expired.
According to unofficial information from Vijesti, at today's session, the Government of Montenegro tasked the Ministry of Education, headed by Anđela Jakšić Stojanović, to suspend the recognition of these diplomas for employment purposes until information is obtained from the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Serbia, the National Body for Accreditation and Quality Assurance in Higher Education and the competent educational inspection on the status of the institution and the students at Megatrend University, the authenticity of educational documents and the right of the higher education institution to issue public documents.
The same sources also claim that the Ministry of National Education and Research receives around thirty applications for recognition for employment purposes annually.
Ministry of National Defense: Suspension will be in effect until necessary information is obtained from the competent authorities of Serbia
The Ministry of Education, Science and Innovation (MESI) officially announced that, at the proposal of that ministry, the Government of Montenegro at today's session adopted conclusions temporarily suspending the recognition of educational documents acquired at Megatrend University and its faculties: Faculty of Culture and Media, Faculty of Business Studies, Faculty of Art and Design, Faculty of Law and Faculty of Geoeconomics, due to the revocation of the work permit.
"The suspension will be valid until the necessary information is obtained from the competent authorities of the Republic of Serbia, after which a decision will be made on its further duration. In this way, the Ministry of Education, Science and Innovation clearly demonstrates that it remains consistent in applying regulations and taking measures to protect the education system and labor market of Montenegro from the influence of illegal educational documents," the MoESI statement reads.
