The Government of Montenegro has approved Montenegro's accession to the renowned European research infrastructure Extreme Light Infrastructure - European Research Infrastructure Consortium (ELI ERIC), further strengthening international cooperation in the field of science, research and innovation.
This was announced today by the Ministry of Education, Science and Innovation (MESI).
The government department explains that ELI ERIC represents one of the leading European research infrastructures in the field of high-intensity laser technologies and interdisciplinary research, with significant potential for application in physics, medicine, energy, and advanced technologies.
"By joining ELI ERIC, Montenegro gains an institutional framework for participation in the work of this infrastructure, access to experiments, training and international projects, as well as the possibility of inclusion in working and advisory bodies," the MoE press release states.
The Ministry of Science and Technology added that the decision to join ELI ERIC is based on many years of successful cooperation between the University of Montenegro and ELI Beamlines, which has resulted in significant scientific results, internationally recognized publications, and strengthening the capacities of young researchers.
"The formalization of cooperation through observer status represents an important step towards the long-term and stable inclusion of Montenegro in European research infrastructures. Participation in ELI ERIC contributes to strengthening national research capacities, increasing the international visibility of Montenegrin science and creating new opportunities for the development of innovation and knowledge transfer. With this step, Montenegro confirms its commitment to integration into the European Research Area and the development of a policy based on knowledge, science and innovation," it was announced.
