The Pljevlja branch of the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) announced that they have submitted a request for an extraordinary session of the Municipal Assembly, regarding the decision of the Ministry of Ecology, Sustainable Development and Northern Development - Directorate for Environmental Inspection, which ordered the sealing of the boiler plant in Skerlićeva Street.
They said that they believe that such important decisions must be viewed through the prism of citizens' interests, especially considering that sealing the boiler room in the winter would lead to a disruption in heating and threaten the basic living conditions of a large number of households.
"Aware of the need for environmental protection and respect for ecological standards, we believe it is necessary to provide a transitional and sustainable solution, until the final heating of the city, which clearly cannot be implemented in the short term," the statement reads.
For this very reason, as they said, the Pljevlja DPS proposed that the decision in question be repealed, and that funds be provided in the municipal budget for 2026 for the complete ecological reconstruction of the boiler house in Skerlićeva Street, so that it could function in accordance with regulations, while protecting the health of citizens and the environment.
"Our goal is not to postpone the solution, but rather a responsible approach that implies that, until the implementation of a permanent heating system, the existing infrastructure is equipped in an environmentally acceptable manner, without endangering the citizens of Pljevlja. The Municipal Board of DPS Pljevlja expects the competent authorities to recognize the seriousness of the situation and enable urgent consideration of this issue at an extraordinary session of the Municipal Assembly," the statement reads.
