The Police Directorate issued a statement regarding this morning's events in Botun, saying that they are acting professionally, with maximum tolerance and patience, in accordance with international standards.
They confirmed that a member of the Municipal Police was obstructed and injured during the operation, and said that he was provided with medical assistance in the Emergency Unit of the Clinical Center, which the Basic State Prosecutor's Office in Podgorica was notified of.
"Regarding the activities carried out this morning by the Municipal Police of the Capital City and the competent services, in carrying out planned activities within their jurisdiction to create conditions for the start of works on the construction of the wastewater treatment system in Botun, which began in the early morning hours, we inform the public of the following:
"The Podgorica Security Department's duty service was contacted by officers of the Capital City Municipal Police at 04:08 and on that occasion verbally requested assistance from the Police Directorate.
"The police officers simultaneously requested evidence from the Municipal Police that they had taken measures and actions within their jurisdiction, applied their legal powers, including means of coercion that include physical force, irritant spray and other means of coercion prescribed by law, as well as to submit evidence that in the application of these powers they had attempted to create conditions for the performance of the works.
"Considering that the Municipal Police officers continued to take measures and actions within their jurisdiction and legally prescribed authorizations, at 6:07 a.m. the Duty Service of the Podgorica Security Department was informed by the Municipal Police officers that their colleague P.Đ. was prevented from acting and injured. The injured party was provided with medical assistance in the premises of the KCCG Emergency Center, which was notified to the Basic State Prosecutor's Office in Podgorica, which will subsequently make a statement, and at the same time the Municipal Police officers verbally requested assistance from the Police Directorate.
"Taking into account the newly emerging circumstances and the fulfillment of the legal requirements from Article 34 of the Law on Internal Affairs, police officers were sent to the scene at around 6:30, or two and a half hours after the arrival of the Municipal Police, to assist the Municipal Police in the execution.
"Police activities are underway, acting professionally, with maximum tolerance and patience in accordance with international standards. We will inform the public about the further outcome of the activities in a timely manner."
"The legality of the actions of members of the Police Directorate is monitored by officers of the Police Internal Control Department, and at the same time, media representatives are allowed to be present for objective reporting," the statement reads.
